I began my career 10 years ago as a graphic designer at a commercial printers in Islington. I then moved into the world of magazine design and later became an art editor for a national magazine publisher.
In 2006 I opted for a career change to pursue my love of drawing and enrolled on a HND Illustration course at Northbrook College in Brighton. After two years of challenging work I successfully graduated and exhibited my portfolio at the New Designers Exhibition 2009 held at the Design Centre in Islington.
I work from my Greenwich based studio as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer specialising in advertising, editorial, publishing, children's illustration, greeting's stationery, magazine design, branding/logos and advert design.
Here is a general overview of my working process for a typical project.
1. Understand the needs of the client and their project
First, I discuss the project with the client either by phone or in person in order to understand their ideas and concept for the final design/artwork. I also find out the potential colour, layout, size, style and also to get an idea of the complexity and timescale of the project.
2. Research design/artwork
I begin by collecting any information that I might need, such as reference images and other research material. Depending on the client's timescale, my next step is to create preliminary rough sketches, in order to communicate my ideas in a visual way.
Upon approval from the client, I make any necessary changes and take the artwork to a more refined stage.
Upon further approval from the client, I make any final revisions and proceed to finish the artwork.
I like to check in with a client to make sure they have everything they need and everything meets their expectations.
